The Echo of Her Words Evaporating in the Air extends from The Tears of Tearing Her Heart Out (2025), a performance that combines cake-making, tasting, monologues, and writing. Inspired by her mother, who used cake-sharing as an emotional buffer, the artist examines personal and family trauma in mother-daughter relationships through a sensory and therapeutic process. The perspective shifts from first-person (“I”) to third-person (“she”), dissolving boundaries among time, performer, and audience, expanding the subjectivity of “her.” “She” narrates the story from the work, relayed by another “her” from a previous performance, describing her entrance, initiation, and emotional state as observed by “she.” The audience becomes collective witnesses as she confronts micro-tears linked to her and her friend’s upbringing, using the musicality of language to evoke a sense of belonging. The piece explores the fluid boundaries between performer, narrator, and audience, blending past and present, with “she” both physically present and outside the scene.
